For those of you that grew up in the ‘90s, this news should strike a chord. Luke Perry, 52, aka Dylan McKay passed away early this morning from a massive stroke! I grew up watching this show and to see a member of this cast die from a “massive stroke” hits too close to home.
A little over 8 years ago, I suffered what was called a “massive hemorrhagic stroke” that left me in a coma for 11 days! I was admitted to UCSF and was there for a couple of months. From there I was transferred to CPMC where I stayed for an additional month and a half! There I re-learned how to read and write (with my opposite hand). I was in a wheelchair for about a total of six months! With the help and support of my brother, Brian Velasquez, and my parents I was able to get up out of my chair and walk. Albeit an extremely short distance at first, I kept trying everyday. To this day, I am still recovering…
This tragedy that occurred this morning just goes to show that a stroke can happen to anyone at any time! Be safe and take care of yourselves and remember these simple steps that may save a life…

Eyes – Is there sudden blurred or double vision
Fast – Ask the person to smile. Is one or both sides of face drooping?
