B.E. F.A.S.T.

This message goes out to everyone! Do you know if someone is experiencing a stroke and what signs to look for? I didn’t.

On September 13th of 2010, I woke up one Monday morning to drive my aunt to the airport. Everything was fine. On the way home, I felt a little headache. I thought that I just needed some more sleep. I got home and tried to go back to bed. Tossing and turning in bed trying to find that “comfort zone”. I couldn’t. My headache was just getting worse! It quickly became the worst headache I’ve ever felt in my life! Luckily, my brother was working from home. I called down to him and he came up to my room. He was just as clueless as I was when it came to STROKE AWARENESS! He checked up my symptoms online for a couple of minuets and then called my father. My dad was working all the way in Walnut Creek at the time. He just told my brother to hang up and call an ambulance! My brother quickly did that and the paramedics arrived within minutes! They reached me in time to ask me if I could tell them what was wrong. I just told them that I had the worst headache in my life! Before they could finish asking a second question, my face had drooped and my right arm and right leg became completely paralyzed! At that moment, I thought I was going to die! I tried to mouth out to my brother that I loved him and to tell my parents that I loved them but all the words coming out of my mouth were incomprehensible! After that I fell into a coma! The coma lasted for 11 grueling days! When my eyes finally opened I really didn’t know what was going on.

I spent the next 4 months in the hospital! Learning how to walk and talk all over again. It was very extremely frustrating! I thought my life was over. I was in a wheelchair for a total of 6 months. I fell in a depression because I thought my life was over!

That’s where my love of basketball saved my life! This league, TripleDoubleSports, gave a purpose. To get up everyday and give people out there a chance to play the game I love! With my brother by my side we have done, and continue to do, just that! Stressing the fact that you need to know the signs before it’s too late.

So, my friends, please don’t forget to be aware of the signs of a Stroke! You could be saving a life! 🙏🏽
